Learn With Us

Support for Change Project

In 2011 Inclusive NZ (formerly NZ VASS) decided to take a more in-depth look at how organisations experience change. We had a number of questions, including:

  • How does sustainable, transformational change happen?
  • What is the link between learning and change?
  • What needs to be in place to support change?
  • What have organisations learned from their change efforts?

We began with a literature review and then followed this up with in-depth interviews with four of our member organisations. All of these organisations have embarked on change efforts and we wanted to hear their stories. You can read the story of Interactionz here.

We have summarised what we have learned in our Research Report. For us, two things really stood out. One was that the organisations that took part in the interviews really valued the experience. The other was that change rarely happens in a linear, carefully planned way. It requires experimentation, on-going observation and the ability to adapt. This makes learning central to the life of an organisation. We have developed the Enabling Conditions of Learning Organisations, to help organisations think about how they can design themselves for on-going learning, change and development.
